Another Blizzard Day!

When I first arrived in Inukjuak, they had just received quite a snowfall. On my first walk to the clinic, it took over 15 minutes because I had to wade through the snow. When I finally arrived at work, the staff told me "Don't worry, it will get too cold soon for large snowfalls like this." Well, that was a month ago, and yet again, we are having quite a storm today. I am on call, so I got up early and I opened the outside door (which is really the only way to check the weather), to see nothing! There is blowing snow, and the snow has accumulated so much that I no longer have front steps. I checked the Internet and it says that it is -15 with a wind chill of -28. Driving the van to see patients today should be fun, there is zero visibility! Also, the sun rises at 9:15 and goes down at 14:35, and no street lamps! If you thought I was pale before...

Not much is new since my last entry. I have heard regularly from my friends and family back at home. It seems my cat and apartment are doing fine, thanks to Nicole! It seems much is going on in the ER.....what else is new! I am there with you in spirit guys!! I was sad to have missed the annual ER Christmas party, especially after seeing all the pictures on face book of the staff dancing up a storm.

The clinic has become slightly busier this week. I actually worked up a patient somewhat like I would back at home. Got to do a physical, made a diagnosis, start an IV, take labs and start IV antibiotics and observe the patient for a while. It felt good to do some familiar work!! I was second on call last night, and the first nurse on call woke me up around 11:30 pm, saying we had to respond to an emergency. It ended being a false alarm, but I was wide awake when I returned to bed, and had trouble sleeping. I think today will be quiet just because it is a blizzard outside, and the weather seems to stop people from travelling here. So it is a good day for a nap, and tonight there is a wine and cheese at a friends house. No wine for me (I am on call), but I can always eat some cheese!!
Three weeks to go before my first break. I can not wait to come home and see everyone. I miss everything: my car, my cat, my home, family, friends, shopping and real food!!! It should be a busy visit at home, with not many lazy nights at home relaxing, but that's fine!
